Highlights of the maritime Skellefteå
Skellefteå and its surroundings have the most uplifting coast in the world (1 metre/100 years). This gives our 247 kilometres long coast a special character. Along the coast themost significant monuments are situated – the lighthouses!
The Skellefteå NORCE project is owned by the municipality in collaboration with Skellefteå museum and will support societies engaged in each of the most spectacular lighthouses. Together we will develop the coastal Skellefteå as a tourist attraction by preserving the lighthouses and enhance the information about the cultural heritage in the Bay of Bothnia. Our projects aim is to promote the awareness of the maritime cultural heritage.
The cape in the dangerous waters around Bjuröklubb was described by Olaus Magnus in his History of the northern peoples as early as 1555. At this place a lighthouse was built in 1852.
The lighthouse of

Pite-Rönnskär was constructed by Heidenstam in 1862 and was erected in this place 1905. It is described as “the Queen of lighthouses”. It is the highest lighthouse of its kind in Sweden (39 metres height of light).
At Gåsören in the inlet to the town of Skellefteå a lighthouse was built in 1881. This lighthouse is now under the protection of law.
